Alright friends, sorry it has been a minute since my last post! I promise I have been trying to get to STL snocone stands but it has either been raining or the ones I have tried to go to are closed!
Note to fellow snoconers: Make sure you check out the times of snocone stands while you're there so you know when it will be open the next time you crave one. My friends and I went to three snocone stands to find they were permanently closed or not open until later in the afternoon. Also, I've got you covered. You will notice in my posts that I make sure to take pictures of signage, especially the time posted.
Here we go on the review for Tropical Moose:

As many of you probably know Tropical Moose is a snocone gem found in both Webster Groves and Kirkwood. These neighborhood friendly stands are perfect places for teenagers to hang and families to bring their kiddos. The best part? At both locations you can take your snocone and walk around to explore the pretty surroundings. In Kirkwood you've got the farmers market along with all of downtown kirkwood full of shops, delicious restaurants, and beautiful neighborhoods. In Webster TroMo is surrounded by Webster University along with local restaurants (check out Webster Garden a delicious Vietnamese and Chinese place in the same strip as TroMo).
Kirkwood location- Kirkwood Farmers' MarketTaylor and ArgonneKirkwood, MO 63122
Webster location- 43 S. Old Orchard, next to Big Sky Cafe and across from Hwy 61 Roadhouse Restaurant
Make sure to check out their website tropicalmoose.com, along with facebook and twitter page. They are one of the few stands around that does an awesome job of social media! Props to you guys.

Breakdown:
Quality of Shaved Ice: Tropical Moose has a great Ice Shaver (or whatever the official term may be). The ice was the right amount of thin. I think only one other place has it beat, and that place is in the middle of Arkansas, so TroMo can rest easy.
Amount of Juice: At first taste I thought the snocone was not quite juicy enough, however after getting a few bites in I found the syrup is at the bottom and you've just got to mix it together a little bit. After that, syrup was plentiful.

Selection: Tropical Moose sticks to the simpler side of snocone flavors, which is kind of a relief to me. Though I enjoy the nostalgic feel of Murray's selection, I like being able to narrow down what I like and not having to sort through all the weird cheesy names. I had a sour cherry/lemon drop while my partner in crime had a Citrus Island.
Flavor: I enjoyed my sour cherry/lemon drop. It was pretty good. The Citrus Island was a bit bland, but I think it could have been good with another flavor. I like to mix things up a little bit, others like to find the one really great flavor. With snocones it's all about finding the one you really love.

Toppings: TroMo has it down in the toppings arena! They have free nerds and sprinkles along with pop rocks, ice cream, whipped cream, sweet cream, caramel for a small fee. I'm talking like fifty cents to a dollar. Now I wish I would have gotten some sweet cream or ice cream in mine. I will have to go back soon. Probably after I go to Webster Gardens for some chinese/vietnamese I will stop by TroMo.
Seating: Tropical Moose in both locations has a patio table with tables and chairs along with plenty of places to sit throughout the downtown areas. It's hard to compete with the surroundings of Tropical Moose. I did go to a place in Hawaii that was awesome though, but in St. Louis Tropical Moose wins this category.
Friendliness: Teenagers work out of these joints in the summer, but they are the nicest teens you can ask for. Our Snoconess knew all the flavors and where they are by heart and the Shaved Icer (these are legit terms) was super quick and has some real skill.

Packaging: They are a little different from other snocone places in that they serve more in styrofoam ice cream dishes than standard cups. They also pack it so that the top of the snocone is flat. It's cool that it's a little bit different from the rest.
Location: I already raved about it before. You guys win in this category hands down.
Price: Though still not pricey TroMo is a bit more expensive than the usual stand. I say you pay more for the area and a more established business.
Over all, Tropical Moose It's an awesome place in awesome areas. The snocones are great too! Instead of giving a rating like I started off doing, I'm going to give awards at the end of the summer to each snocone stand for what they excel at. Like I said, I'm here to support snocone stands and get the word out about local business.
Happy Snoconing!
